Vinyl | Breaks/Electro Modeselektor - Turn Deaf - Bpitch Control
Modeselektor's "Turn Deaf" is by FAR the craziest and yet most musical release we've received yet on Berlin-based Bpitch Control. The obvious draw here is "Rave Anthem," a Tomas Andersson-sampling nuskool/tech/breaks/electro/glitch workout that sounds as frightening and amazing at 33 as it does at 45. The rest of this EP is a slow burn, with the sound of a rebooting Mac ushering in the insanity on "Turn Deaf!" that doesn't let up. Glitchify your Breakbeats here. "K-Hole" doesn't waste any time making its presence known with it's rugged bass line and punching drums. The Original and the Elite Force Remix provide us with small builds, disassociative sound bytes, and a constant, sustained energy. The Meat Katie Original is much more powerful, and gives "K-Hole" the extra little bump that you don't find in the steadier Elite Force Remix. Either way, your audience won't remember what hit them. - Roberto Torreggiani
Soul of Man - "Dirty Waltzer" / "Get It Girls" - Finger Lickin' "Get it Girls is a funky breaks track that's built around a funked out bassline, streched out synth stabs and nice placement of vocal samples to add depth and character. This is a relatively simple track, but its simplicity is what makes it work. Don't getwho like to add a little spice to their sets, as well as some funky house DJs alike. Solid release from Soul of Man (aka Justin Rushmore, head honcho of Finger Lickin' Records, and partner in crime, Jem Panufnik). " - Danny Waddell "PMT delivers his best effort since "Gyromancer" on this incredible remix. With an extended intro that falls out to almost silence, you have a sense that something special is about to happen. Then a mind-blowing breakbeat drops in to reassure your intuitions. The combination of funked out basslines, choppy male vocals, and subtle strings make this a track will work in the sets of open-minded progressive, breaks, and house DJs alike. The flip brings another solid mix from the drum and bass man of the moment, High Contrast. The production is quality, but the vocal could be used a bit more sparingly. Overall another solid effort from the Marine Parade camp. " - Brett Abramson "ILS's follow up to "The Next Level" (which according to Marine Parade is the best selling breakbeat track ever) stays with the organic feel for which ILS is becoming so well known. This track fuses drum & bass and breakbeat, using lush string chords to create the mood of the track. "Requiem" is simply a well-done piece of music that can be used as an early morning track, an early evening warm-up, or even something to bring the music down a notch during a set. ILS doesn't let down with this release. If you're a fan of breakbeat, give it a listen. " - Danny Waddell
Drexciya - Harnessed the Storm LP - Tresor "The mysterious Drexciya (it's rumored that they've never been photographed), return from the unknown with a very cool and living room friendly electro album that would still work on any educated dancefloor. It's very deep, dark and moody, always hinting toward Detroit, and of course funky. This is some challenging music for the discerning ear; give it a couple of listens and find yourself hooked. If you like your music a little weird, and I know you do, then pick this album up. " - Adam Smith
Blue Light Fever - DJ - Salt Recordings "When you hear the name B.L.I.M. you know that it is synonymous with cutting edge breakbeat, and the East London producer/DJ does not let us down with this remix. "DJ" is an electro breakbeat stormer that will rip up the dance floor in the peakest of hours" - Danny Waddell
