Horrible Children presents: The Void feat. Jeff Mills
Due to the success of Enter the Void we have decided to start a quarterly night to focus on deeper darker sounds. We kick off the series with a very special performance by one of the true legends of Techno music
Jeff Mills
Axis Records
Chicago,IL
Jeff Mills is considered one of the most brilliant Techno DJs and producers in the world. He is one of the most-recognized representative figures of Detroit Techno, where he began his career as a DJ on the radio station WDRQ in 1984. He, along with “Mad” Mike Banks, helped create the collective “Underground Resistance” which became an icon in the electronic music sphere.
In 1992, Jeff Mills created his own label “Axis” where he could keep his artistic independence and produce his own timeless electronic music compositions, inspired by science fiction. While he performs as a DJ all over the world an average of 100 dates in a year, Jeff Mills’ artistic career goes much further than just Techno music. For over a decade, he’s been transcending disciplines with a large number of collaborations in contemporary art.
Interested in cinema and attracted by images, Jeff Mills started working, in 2000, on the fusion of image and sound. That year, he created and presented a new soundtrack for the film Metropolis by Fritz Lang at the Pompidou Center in France. A year after, he created Mono, an installation inspired by the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey, by Stanley Kubrick.
In 2004, Jeff Mills produced the DVD Exhibitionist which presents DJ sets filmed from various angles (from front, top and side). At that same period, he acquired a new tool, the DVJ-X that allowed him to manipulate image and sound together, paving the way into the art world. In 2005, Jeff Mills made, for MK2, a new soundtrack for the silent movie Three Ages by Buster Keaton, and created a series of six video artworks presented in Paris at the Galerie Georges-Philippe et Nathalie Vallois and at the « rendez-vous vidéo » of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen.
Jeff Mills continued this work period with a production on Josephine Baker, presented during the FIAC 2005 in the Grand Palais. On July 2nd, 2005, Jeff Mills played together with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Montpellier, for the 20th anniversary of the Pont du Gard’s inclusion in the world heritage list by UNESCO. Together with the orchestra, Jeff Mills performed his own compositions, orchestrated by Thomas Roussel for this occasion.
In 2007, he was invited by the movie director Claire Denis to create the sound environment of the exhibition Diaspora at the Musée du Guai Branly in Paris. That same year, Jeff Mills received the title of “Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres” from the French Ministry of Culture. In 2008, Jeff Mills was commissioned to create a contemporary installation for 100-Year Anniversary of the Futurist Manifesto at the Pompidou Center. At the Sonar Festival in Barcelona, Jeff Mills and “Mad” Mike Banks were together again for an historical performance called X-102: Rediscovers the Rings of Saturn, mixing video and music.
Always busy, Jeff Mills is involved in numerous projects at this time, including several film soundtracks collaborating with Cinematheque and Cite de la Musique in Paris. Please go towww.axisrecords.com for more info.

hope for good sound AND PEOPLE, I have watched Jeff Mills refuse to go on because it wasn't packed. I believe the quote was "if I got up there I would just be playing records, please take me back to the hotel".
other than that I am beyond stoked. BEYOND STOKED |

Good God. This is a massive booking! I've seen Jeff Mills play an underground warehouse in Brooklyn and play until I had no Idea it was morning. The guy is a beast!
Damn, I'm going to have to come out the woodwork for this one!
PSS. YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED A PROPER RIG FOR JEFF MILLS!!!
Do not skimp on the sound. I'm serious, someone will get bitch slapped _________________ Cheers!

The Bio should read:
It's Goddamn Jeff Mills.
If you don't know who he is, you should be ashamed of yourself.
He is the master of techno. A Dj's DJ.
If your lucky, you'll join us. Or you can just sit back and read online reviews of how he destroyed whatever venue he's playing at.
You choose. _________________ Cheers!

Definitely agree with the comments on sound. Went to a HC party a few months ago that had some live pa techno and a pretty crazy psy-trance dj from NYC. Thought sound was pretty good. Basement was big, dimly lit (Into the Void!!!) and packed! Kids going crazy! Good times. No booze, but whatever. Neither was Nike Pavillion. Only 2 local support djs in the main room with closing @ 6am = excellent marathon set from Mills. Keep it dark & bring in the big rigs! |

Kind of a random booking (guess I didn't expect Horrible Children to book this type of talent), but I echo the sentiment here, I really hope this group has a proper setup. We'll have to find out _________________ http://soundcloud.com/plan_b |

^ is this @ Jungle?
I really hope that Horrible children know what there doing. I know these guys have been throwing parties for a while but they have been throwing Phy-trance and dubstep, progressive and trance parties. I hope there clientele is ready cause if you are trying to introduce your crowd to "Techno" music you don't bring the guy (a purist) to do it. You ease them into it with a couple of parties and see how they respond. Then bring the Master! For instance i get having different genres of music at a party, thats awesome but if you have..........

open up for Jeff Mills, like it says in the post, then im going to smack somebody. Progressive what? Trance? Progressive house? Your joking right.
I'm not trying to hate but damn please don't bring this guy and have him play a shitty party and get a bad taste in his mouth for Atlanta. We don't need another Danny Tenaglia situation.
On the other hand i really hope that it's packed and the party is a success.
I do know for a fact that Jungle has an amazing sound system!!! _________________ I found that many ppl from Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, etc like to talk about shooting rifles and being in the army.! |

It's not at Jungle. It is the "Pink" Building (although it is beige now.) And I know for a fact that the sound rig will be turbosound / Yorkville and will sound awesome!!
As far as the crowd goes, I stopped by the last Horrible Children party at about 5 am and the place was packed. The upstairs "dubstep" room was all but empty, but the downstairs was packed out dancing their asses off!! I belive these guys have brought in techno over the years to a great response...
Should be a dirty old school type of affair! |

This booking isn't random at all brotha. Michael has been bringing Techno artists in for a while now. You guys usually just don't pay attention to Horrible Children parties. _________________ Corey Von Waters

Justin here is the breakdown:
a. Michael knows what he's doing.
b. He has brought several techno dj's in the past but not someone this big
c. His parties are always packed.
d. You're going to have to deal with a bunch of freaky ass people as Michael's parties breed this kind of vibe.
e. People come to Michael's parties for the show more than the headliner.
f. His crowd is used to the multigenre thing.
Hope that helps. _________________ Corey Von Waters
