Local Artist Profile | Eve Photos by Motomasa Mori and Alfeo Dixon The second in a series of local artist profiles on Lunar, where we put the spotlight on some deserving Atlanta talentsDJS, producers and other who had a hand in shaping the growth and history of the local music scene. One cannot talk about the history of Atlanta music without mentioning WRAS and Planet8.
Real Name - Eve Years DJing/Producing - I started Djing in 1994, under the auspices of the Housefaerie from WRAS Atlanta. I had my first gig at Sol Nightclub in 95', and have been lovin' it ever since! Affiliation - Space Kadets CollectiveEve, Motomasa, Faust, Shortee [of ATL] and Usual, Magic [of NYC]
We try to do gigs together whenever possible. All four of us have such different styles, however, they compliment each other amazingly well. Some past residencies: Sol Nightclub '96, Nomenclature Museum '98, Karma '99, Trinity Lounge 12/01-4/02. Epicenter at Trinity had just concluded a very successful run. Residencies - None at present. Styles - Good Music. Everything from downtempo, IDM, and ambient to intelligent and hardcore dnb to house, future jazz, and electro. Influences - The Housefaerie was my first major influence. From him, I developed a very open-minded approach to music. He always told me that when listening to a record, "If you don't understand it, buy it!" I gravitate towards music that challenges me to really listen. Of course, you gotta love a funky groove, but it can be done in such an interesting and eclectic way. Now, my major influence is my beloved husband and spinning partner, Motomasa. His technical ability on the decks and ear for melody has inspired me to be a better DJ. Other noteworthy influences are Alex Paterson of The Orb, Charlotte the Baroness, Andrea Parker, E Sassin, T Power, Amon Tobin, Blame, Plaid/Black Dog, Richard Devine, and The KLF. Upcoming Gigs -- Goddess IV April 18th at Trinity Lounge downtown with Motomasa and Lewis. With Goddess III at the Globe Theater, I was deemed Goddess of Ambience, and was given full freedom to create a chill out room. During the evening [spanning 8 hours], I when through the styles of downtempo - ranging from releases onWarp records, Mo Wax, K7, Ubiquity and Lacerba to a little intelligent dnb courtesy of Good Looking, Dot, Sour, Ninja Tune, to name a few. Then as the evening progressed, I gave Atlanta a pure taste of ambient, with Global Communications, Astralwerks, some Excusions in Ambience, and of course The Orb. just an overview :-) Other good news is that Plur Planet definately wants to continue having me in for Goddess. See you at IV!

Thoughts on the Atlanta Scene - Over the years, the Atlanta dance community has had a steady ebb and flow. I'm very pleased with where we are going as a whole. There are so many great producers in Atlanta, and I think the city is finally coming onto her own with an "Atlanta sound." I think this sound will always be a fusion of different cultures, styles and ways of life. I like the progression in community that I've seen over time. At first, there were only a handful of folks heavily involved in dance music, but now different crews are working together, and not letting ego get in the way as much. It's important to share in the overall vision of the arts (underground dance music and hip hop being a major facet). Favorite Gig Ever - I'd have to say DABBLE at Fusion, put on by Kids With Code Names. For this gig, Motomasa and I were asked to play a style which we weren't necessarily associated with. We chose to do a 2 hour old skool set, featuring all the classics..FSOL, Altern 8, Rozalla, N-Joi, Prodigy, LFO, A Homeboy A Hippie and A Funky Dredd, Inner Cityand the list goes on. The energy that night was amazing! I've never had so much fun playing for a crowd. All the headz came out to relive the beginnings of their club days. It was a great release for Motomasa and I too! Strangest Request from Someone while Playing - I can't recall any really strange ones, but I have always loved it when people come up to me and recognize something really obscure that I'm playing. It's that look of "Oh my god, I didn't know someone else knew about this!" Love it! Keep on learning. Something We May Not Know About You - Motomasa and I also avidly pursue Kyudo. It's the art of ceremonial Japanese archery, that incorporates form and spirit into shooting. Check out the website for pics. Advice for Other DJs/Producers - Do your own thing. Don't let trends dictate what you play or produce. Go with your own taste in music, and the rest will follow. Keep up with what's current and expand your mind, but be true to what moves your soul. Current Top 5 Chart - Locally, want to point out locally, Lewis - Hednod 101 and Kevin O - Live on Houseworks 88.5. No particular order:
